So, we’re driving the Yukon Hiway and I see a brown bear walking down a lane leading onto the Hiway. I can’t stop immediately because of the trailer, but I do get stopped and pulled over. Luckily, there were no cars coming; so, instead of getting out and walking back to see if I can get a picture, I do the prudent thing and back up until I’m almost to the lane. I figured that if we stay in the car, the bear would be more likely to not run away as they are used to cars passing by. Well, no luck, no bear, but then I decided to do a not so prudent thing! I got out and walked back a few yards to see down the lane further as there was a bend! All of a sudden, I see the bear in the road ditch ahead of me! He doesn’t see me; so, I figured I might as well take a couple of shots! I think he heard the camera shutter. He turns towards me, I shoot again and he STANDS UP! π³. I’m 30 yards from a BROWN BEAR, on its hind legs starring directly at me! Oh yeah, a not so prudent decision, I left the bear spray in the truck! I know!!!BUT, I make another not so prudent decision, I squeeze off a couple more shots of him standing up, looking directly at me! π¬ Then, I start walking slowly backwards, and LUCKILY, he’s as afraid of me as I am of him, and takes off RUNNING.........away from me, THANK GOODNESS! Heart pounding, I walk back to the truck and show Bonnie the pictures I took! She wasn’t that impressed! π, with my decision making! π€
I also include some tamer pictures for the which I am grateful and appreciative!
That’s my BROWN BEAR story!
