Haines is the place..........

We have enjoyed Haines so much; we decided to stay an extra day.  Even though we didn’t have WiFi at our park, we found it at the local library! “Librariesrock” is the password and we agree.  We love Haines. It has all the feel of a remote Alaskan town with all of the amenities! Yesterday, we saw bears, moose, Eagles, numerous birds, seals, orcas, you name it and we saw them!
That’s cuz, we went to the Bald Eagle Foundation “museum!” πŸ˜‰
Haines is full of local art displays, shops and artists. We even visited a totem reconstruction artist, but they weren’t reconstructing yesterday! We went on a fabulous hike and, of course, witnessed gorgeous scenery!
And, today, we visited the Jilkaat Kwanzaa Cultural Heritage and Bald Eagle Visitors Center.
Ohhhhhh, and Ken had a look at an eagle who gave him an extraordinary opportunity to watch him fish! And, we saw a mama Merganzer and her 8 ducklings.
Tomorrow, we head north! Not sure how far we’ll get because the road is under construction, but we’ll see!
Until next post, Be Well, K/B

On our way to Haines.......

Well, kinda on our way.  We actually squandered a day away because we took the 8:15 departure from Skagway, but the good news was that we didn’t have to back onto the ship!!!πŸ€— We didn’t do a lot in Skagway, but we saw some different sites (the reconstructed saloon and took a short drive from town that overlooked the town and harbor).  We were surrounded by 6,000 of our closest friends again as there were FOUR cruise ships in town!
So, it’s 11:15 and we are in our RVpark for the next two nights here in Haines. We hope to see some eagles, maybe a brown bear and some sea life while here. Keeping our fingers crossed! That’s about it. The ferry ride, even though it was chilly, was a blast!

Couple of Days in Skagway

We decided to stay in Skagway and smell the mountains and oceans! We have enjoyed the history here as the NPS has wonderful facilities and the town of Skagway has a great museum and placards all over which we can read as we walk the town.  The new “Gold Rush” is definitely the cruise ship tourists as there are four(ships) in town right now! Yes, we did ride the White Pass & Yukon railroad that was so influential in the settling of Skagway. Unfortunately, the steam locomotive doesn’t operate until July! 😞. Not as cool as the Durango/Silverton, but the views were spectacular! We plan to leave Skagway tomorrow and take the Marine Hiway to Haines! That’ll be an interesting time! Weather here as been unseasonably warm, so say the locals! Haven’t had the rain Kearney is gettin! That’s for sure!
Thanks for following along!

WE MADE IT TO ALASKA πŸ™πŸ»πŸ€—

We only had to drive 88 miles today to reach Skagway! So, a couple more pictures of the cool place we stayed last night; breakfast; some more scenery and, of course, a selfie! (we’ll get the selfie thing figured out before we get home, promise) No animal spotting today, but we did see a LOT of cruise ship passengers! πŸ˜‰
Enjoy your Memorial Day and remember all who came before! πŸ™πŸ»πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈπŸ™πŸ»

Almost to Alaska!

We took it easy today. Only drove 222 miles! Yukon Territories has pretty good roads, but they’re not straight! Scenery is typical Canadian scenery. Lots of water, lots of trees and clean air. We saw several “Caribou Crossing” signs, but evidently, the caribou up here don’t know how to read because we didn’t ever see one crossing! We did, however, see a porcupine! Ken took “several” pictures! πŸ˜‰
We found a jewel of a campground tonight! Right on the Tagish River! Lots of folk artistry/collectibles! License plates from all over as well as old stoves and boat motors, moose and caribou antlers!
Tomorrow, we will be in Alaska; Skagway, to be exact! πŸ€—πŸ€—πŸ€—

Good Night, All!

Beautiful BC and "How much farther is it?"

No internet last night; so, this is two days of travel........We've been to British Columbia twice before  and we've thought how beautiful it was.  The past two days haven't disappointed.  Yesterday, we left Prince George and headed west on Hiway 16.  Landscapes were just awesome.......well, except for the fact that they need to do a dandelion intervention. Or, perhaps they've a plan for some dandelion wine.  We saw fields, and fields, and fields of dandelions???????  Some soccer fields were so thick we wondered how the kids could even run through them.  Other than that, it was as if BC has a handle on the definition of "beauty."  We turned north on the Cassair Hiway.  Highly recommended and it didn't disappoint either.  We were struck by the lush, fresh, clean look of nature laid out before us.  We did see 9 black bears!  Three singles and two mama bears with two cubs each.  They were pretty camera shy, but we did get a blurry picture of one of them before he/she scurried into the woods.  Last night was a first for us as we boondocked for the first time......well, almost:  we were within walking distance of hot showers and a bathroom!  But, we were entirely on our own power and water wise.  Was kinda fun realizing we could do that effectively.  Today, was a struggle! We only drove 294 miles at 60, 70, and a few times 80 km/hr.  Yup, km, you do the math!  Besides, it rained all day and those majestic panoramas just weren't happening.  We did see two more black bears and a caribou; so, that was fun.  One of the bears was really camera friendly; so, Ken got a "few" shots of him.  That's about a wrap other than to tell you we are on the Alaskan Hiway!  Not sure how far we're going tomorrow......got kinda road weary today!
Enjoy your three day weekend!  All for now. πŸ™πŸ»πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈπŸ™πŸ»

(We have a really slow connection tonight; so, will try to upload some more pictures tomorrow. 😞)
